#yelpingwangs – SakaMai

While in NYC to shoot our engagement albumn, we stopped by SakaMai. Let me be frank, I made the reservation for one reason and one reason only: the egg on egg on egg.

Here it is in all its….glory?IMG_4003

The egg on egg on egg is sea urchin and white sturgeon caviar on bed of scrambled eggs and…um I really don’t get it. Don’t hate me. Perhaps it’s because we got in late, at last call, or perhaps it’s because my palette is not as sophisticated as I thought but I don’t find the flavors particularly rich or special. It’s a fun concept but honestly, I wouldn’t return.

This is one of those restaurants that carry exorbitant prices but not particularly satisfying food. Those places I go once to try but wouldn’t repeat. The service wasn’t particularly attentive and the food really wasn’t worth the prices. You all know what I’m talking about right? This is in every way a fancy, fluffy, place that sells on the experience but not the food. Nothing tasted bad, don’t get me wrong, but it’s definitely not worth the $100+ bill you’ll rack up just ordering appetizers/cocktail.

Overall 3/5 – because it’s just so so and at the end, no amount of fu-fu-ness overshadows a decadent, satisfying meal.
Decor: 5/5
Service: 4/5
Food: 4/5
Bang for your buck: 2/5

Would not recommend to a friend…sorry!
